How to Manage Your WireGuard Configuration Files

Unlocator allows you to generate your own WireGuard configuration files, which you can use to connect compatible devices and routers to Unlocator VPN using the WireGuard protocol.

How Many WireGuard Configurations Can I Have?

You can have a maximum of 5 active WireGuard configurations at a time.

Each configuration you generate for a VPN server counts toward this limit. For example, if you have generated configurations for five different server locations, you will have reached the maximum allowed number of configurations.

What Happens When I Reach the 5-Configuration Limit?

Once you have 5 WireGuard configurations, you won't be able to generate a configuration for another server until you delete one of your existing configurations.

For example, if you currently have configurations for:

United States – New York
United States – Los Angeles
United Kingdom – London
Germany – Frankfurt
Canada – Toronto

and you want to generate a new configuration for a server in France, you will first need to delete one of the five existing configurations.

After deleting it, a slot becomes available and you can generate the configuration for the new server.

How to Generate a Configuration for a New Server

If you have already reached the maximum of 5 configurations:

Sign in to your Unlocator account.
Navigate to the WireGuard configuration section.
Review your existing WireGuard configurations.
Delete a configuration for a server you no longer need.
Select the new server location you want to use.
Generate and download the new WireGuard configuration file.

You can repeat this process whenever you want to switch to a different server location.

Important: Deleting a Configuration Disables That Configuration

When you delete a WireGuard configuration from your Unlocator account, any previously downloaded copy of that configuration should no longer be considered an active configuration.

If you want to use that server again later, you will need to generate a new WireGuard configuration for it.

Why Is There a Limit?

The 5-configuration limit applies to the number of active WireGuard configurations, not to the number of times you can generate configurations.

This means you're free to change which server configurations you have. You simply need to keep the number of active configurations at 5 or fewer at any given time.

In Short

You can have up to 5 active WireGuard configurations. If you already have five and want to generate a configuration for another server, simply delete one of your existing configurations first. This frees up a slot so you can generate a new configuration for the server you want to use.
